The Wind Blows Where It Chooses: Following God’s Spirit of Change

Reimagining the Church?
But how?
This project is full of questions, but we must make sure they are good, life-giving ones.
Reimagining Church. The phrase could sound a bit scary, right? We like our church, otherwise we would not have joined the congregation or we would not continue coming. First Congregational Church of Madison is a vibrant church with a lot of positives: strong ties to the community, a deep commitment to hospitality toward new and existing members, wonderful music, a beautiful historic building, and great ministerial leadership. Why would we want to reimagine? Why now?
Someone like me who has committed to “reimagine church” makes two assumptions. First, we know the church has a problem. Second, the church is worth preserving anyway. Yes, it is flawed and no, we cannot discard it. Nothing is left, then, but to give this sacred institution our creativity, energy, and new vision.
